Short Biography
Spyros Rontogiannis started being involved with music very early studying piano and then he turned his interest to saxophone. He studied in Italy, France and Greece and received a classic music saxophone diploma in 2005 by Filippos Nakas Conservatory.
Since 2006 he continued his studies with Sylvios Syrros at Athenaeum Conservatory, and lately with Gilad Atzmon.
He is a founding member of the Open Maze quintet, with which he presented his own compositions for the first time. He has collaborated with many groups of the Greek jazz scene, he is a leading sax player of the Pireaus Municipality Philarmonic and he has also collaborated with the Athens State Orchestra and the Nirikos string orchestra.

Ο Σπύρος Ροντογιάννης ξεκίνησε σε μικρή ηλικία αρχικά με το πιάνο, για να τον κερδίσει στην συνέχεια το σαξόφωνο. Σπούδασε στην Ιταλία, τη Γαλλία και την Ελλάδα και το 2005 πήρε δίπλωμα κλασικού σαξοφώνου από το Ωδείο Φίλιππος Νάκας.
Από το 2006, συνέχισε τις σπουδές του δίπλα στον Σύλβιο Σύρρο στο Ωδείο Athenaeum, ενώ τα τελευταία χρόνια θητεύει δίπλα στον σπουδαίο σαξοφωνίστα Gilad Atzmon.
Είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος του κουιντέτου Open Maze, στο οποίο παρουσίασε για πρώτη φορά δικές του συνθέσεις. Έχει στο ενεργητικό του τα τελευταία χρόνια σημαντικό αριθμό συμμετοχών σε διάφορα εγχώρια τζαζ σχήματα, ενώ αποτελεί το κορυφαίο σαξόφωνο στην Φιλαρμονική του Δήμου Πειραιά, έχοντας ακόμη συνεργαστεί με την Κρατική Ορχήστρα Αθηνών και την ορχήστρα εγχόρδων «Νηρίκος».
