Out to lunch Trio

Dimitris Tsakas was born in Patra in 1970. He completed his studies in classical guitar graduating with an "exceptional performance" award. In 1991 he started playing alto saxophone and he studied under scholarship at Berklee College of Music. His teachers were Andy Mc Gee, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone and Steve Wilson.
He has taken part in a lot of record productions and live performances by many Greek and foreign artists, as well as some of the best musicians in the Greek jazz scene. In 2004, he formed the Out to lunch Trio along with Kostas Konstantinou and Kostas Kouvidis with which he has taken part in concerts and festivals in Greece and abroad. 
In 2007, he performed as a soloist in the triple Vangelis Papathanasiou album "Blade Runner Trilogy 25th Anniversary".
In May 2010, he released his debut album "Growing Up" which was recorded in New York and received excellent reviews by top musicians such as David Liebman.
In 2013, he presented, for the first time in Greece, the legendary piece "Charlie Parker with strings" performing as a soloist in collaboration with the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra. In 2015 he performed as a soloist with the City of Athens Big Band along with the sensational drummer Ralph Peterson Jr. Also the same year, he presented Duke Pearson’s masterpiece "Cristo Redentor" in collaboration with the ERT National Symphonic Orchestra and Choir at their New Year’s Day concert.
He also performs with Eleftheria Arvanitaki’s band all over Europe. Since 2019 he is the cultural director for the "jazz at the museum” series at the Goulandris Foundation.

Ο Δημήτρης Τσάκας γεννήθηκε στην Πάτρα το 1970. Ολοκλήρωσε τις σπουδές του στην κλασική κιθάρα αποφοιτώντας με άριστα και βραβείο. Το 1991 ξεκίνησε να παίζει άλτο σαξόφωνο και σπούδασε με υποτροφία στο Berklee College of Music. Δάσκαλοί του ήταν ο Andy Mc Gee, ο  Jerry Bergonzi, ο George Garzone και ο Steve Wilson.
Έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολλές δισκογραφικές παραγωγές και ζωντανές εμφανίσεις Ελλήνων και ξένων καλλιτεχνών, μεταξύ των οποίων και μερικοί από τους καλύτερους Έλληνες μουσικούς της τζαζ σκηνής.
Το 2004 σχημάτισε το τρίο Out to lunch Trio μαζί με τον Κώστα Κωνσταντίνου και τον Κώστα Κουβίδη, με το οποίο συμμετείχε σε συναυλίες και φεστιβάλ στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό.
Το 2007 έπαιξε ως σολίστ στο τριπλό άλμπουμ του Βαγγέλη Παπαθανασίου "Blade Runner Trilogy 25th Anniversary".
Το 2010 κυκλοφόρησε το πρώτο του άλμπουμ "Growing Up", που ηχογραφήθηκε στη Νέα Υόρκη και πήρε άριστες κριτικές από κορυφαίους μουσικούς όπως ο David Liebman.
Το 2013 παρουσίασε για πρώτη φορά στην Ελλάδα, το περίφημο "Charlie Parker with strings" ως σολίσας με την Ορχήστρα Σύγχρονης Μουσικής της ΕΡΤ. Το 2015 έπαιξε ως σολίστας με την Big Band του Δήμου Αθηναίων, μαζί με τον ντράμερ Ralph Peterson Jr. Την ίδια χρονιά παρουσίασε το κομμάτι του Duke Pearson "Cristo Redentor", με τη Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα της ΕΡΤ και χορωδία στην πρωτοχρονιάτικη συναυλία της.
Περιοδεύει επίσης σε όλη την Ευρώπη με την Ελευθερία Αρβανιτάκη.
Από το 2019 είναι καλλιτεχικός διευθυντής στη σειρά "jazz at the museum” του Ιδρύματος Γουλανδρή.
