Giorgos Metaxas was born in Colchis, Georgia. His father was Greek and his mother Georgian. He grew up in an environment full of music. He started playing the piano at the age of 7, taking his first lessons from his pianist and composer father.
He studied at the Georgia Conservatory and continued his studies on a scholarship in Moscow. For 24 years he was a professor at the Alma Ata Conservatory.
He has composed symphonic works and music for theater, cinema, animated films and has made orchestrations for the big band of Radio and Television in Russia. He played at many international festivals. His first album "My friend Mephisto" was released in 1997.
Since 1994 he had been living permanently in Patras and teaching in the modern jazz piano department of the Municipal Conservatory.
He died in January 2023.

Ο Γιώργος Μεταξάς γεννήθηκε στην Κολχίδα της Γεωργίας. Ο πατέρας του ήταν Έλληνας και η μητέρα του Γεωργιανή. Μεγάλωσε σε ένα περιβάλλον γεμάτο μουσική. Άρχισε να παίζει πιάνο σε ηλικία 7 ετών, παίρνοντας τα πρώτα του μαθήματα από τον πιανίστα και συνθέτη πατέρα του.
Σπούδασε στο Κονσερβατόριο της Γεωργίας και συνέχισε τις σπουδές του με υποτροφία στη Μόσχα. Για 24 χρόνια ήταν καθηγητής στο Κονσερβατόριο της Άλμα Ατά.
Έχει συνθέσει συμφωνικά έργα και μουσική για θέατρο, κινηματογράφο, ταινίες κινουμένων σχεδίων και έχει κάνει ενορχηστρώσεις για την big band της Ραδιοτηλεόρασης στη Ρωσία. Έπαιξε σε πολλά διεθνή φεστιβάλ.
Το πρώτο του άλμπουμ "My friend Mephisto" κυκλοφόρησε το 1997.
Από το 1994 ζούσε μόνιμα στην Πάτρα και διδάσκοντας στο μοντέρνο τμήμα τζαζ πιάνο του Δημοτικού Ωδείου.
Πέθανε τον Ιανουάριο του 2023.
