Short Biography
Christidis Alexandros was born in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia from Greek parents. Later he moved with his family to former Czechoslovakia and in the city of Prague where as a child he became fascinated by music. Then his family moved to Tashkent in the former Soviet Union. At the age of 12 he enrolled in the music school to learn the accordion. Listening jazz records and watching big bands playing live, he became fascinated with rhythm and the drums.
He studied classical percussion in the preparatory School of the Musical Academy of Kiev. He collaborated with the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra of Kiev and with the Opera and Ballet Chamber Orchestra of Kiev. At the same time, he was also very active in the jazz scene, playing in various bands.
In 1973 he played in the first jazz record for jazz combo ever recorded in Ukraine (Kolesnikov – Novikov – Molotkov - Christidis quartet). In 1978 he repatriated to Greece and he took his Diploma in percussion from the Conservatory of Athens.
As a member of contemporary music ensembles, he has participated in numerous recordings, concerts and festivals in Greece and abroad.
He was principal percussionist in the Greek National Opera and he has also played as principal percussionist and timpanist in the National Symphony Orchestra of the Greek Radio and Television and the Athens State Orchestra.
Among others he has collaborated with Manos Hadjidakis, Nana Mouskouri, Maria Farantouri and the Orchestra of Colours.
He is the founder of the band Cammer-Ton and Allegro String band and he frequently performs in Greece and abroad. Since 2015 he have been the project leader and presenter of the "Jazz for kids".

Ο Αλέξανδρος Χρηστίδης γεννήθηκε στο Novi Sad της Γιουγκοσλαβίας από Έλληνες γονείς. Αργότερα μετακόμισε με την οικογένειά του στην πρώην Τσεχοσλοβακία και ήταν στην Πράγα που αγάπησε τη μουσική. Στη συνέχεια η οικογένειά του εγκαταστάθηκε στην Τασκένδη. Σε ηλικία δώδεκα ετών γράφτηκε σε μουσικό σχολείο για να μάθει ακορντεόν. Ακούγοντας δίσκους τζαζ και παρακολουθώντας σε συναυλίες big bands μαγεύτηκε από τον ρυθμό και τα κρουστά.
Σπούδασε κλασικά κρουστά στο προπαρασκευαστικό σχολείο της Μουσικής Ακαδημίας του Κιέβου. Συνεργάστηκε με τη Φιλαρμονική Ορχήστρα Νέων του Κιέβου, την Ορχήστρα Όπερας και Μουσικής Δωματίου του Κιέβου. Ταυτόχρονα ήταν ενεργό μέλος της τζαζ σκηνής παίζοντας σε διάφορα συγκροτήματα.
Το 1973 έκανε την πρώτη του ηχογράφηση σε τζαζ δίσκο στην Ουκρανία με το κουαρτέτο Kolesnikov – Novikov – Molotkov - Christidis quartet. Το 1978 επαναπατρίστηκε στην Ελλάδα και πήρα δίπλωμα κρουστών από το Ωδείο Αθηνών.
Έπαιξε σε πολλές ηχογραφήσεις, συναυλίες και φεστιβάλ ως μέλος διάφορων σχημάτων.
Ήταν βασικός περκασιονίστας στην Εθνική Όπερα και έχει παίξει επίσης ως βασικός περκασιονίστας στη Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα της ΕΡΤ και τη Δημοτική Ορχήστρα Αθηνών.
Μεταξύ άλλων έχει συνεργαστεί με τον Μάνο Χατζιδάκι, τη Νάνα Μούσχουρη, τη Μαρία Φαραντούρη και την Ορχήστρα των Χρωμάτων. Είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος των συγκροτημάτων Cammer-Ton και Allegro String band με τα οποία παίζει συχνά εντός και εκτός Ελλάδας.
Από το 2015 είναι ηγέτης του πρότζεκ "Jazz for kids".
